Stephen's first wife was Lydia Haskell. He married Abbie (Snow) Wetherell after Lydia's death.

According to the obituary of Henry Proctor Barret, Benjamin served in the War of 1812 in the southern campaign until his death which was caused by yellow fever. [I have not been able to substantiate this claim; however according to probate files, Benjamin Proctor Barret was deceased in 1815.
