    • Awarded bronze Carnegie Medal in May1914 for saving the life of Leon Bachaud who had fallen though the ice while skating on December 8, 1911. The award was received from Pittsburg on June 21, 1914

      Hit by car this afternoon while walking. He apparently did not hear the vehicle coming in time. Won a Carnegie Medal in 1917 for saving the life of Leon Bachaud in 1916.
      Survived by widow and four children, Herbert, Milton, Harold, and Mrs. William E. Eldridge. Predeceased by son Earl F. Howe who was the first Ware man to die in World War I. Earl died while fighting in France.
