    • Arnold was declared missing in action while serving on the USS Ticonderoga which was attacked on 21 January 1945 by Japanese Kamikazi pilots, The Southbridge Evening News, 9 February 1945, reported that his wife had recently received a telegram from the Navy Department notifying her that he was missing in action. The article went on to mention his surviving children and siblings. It stated that his parents were Mr. and Mrs. William Mundell of Brookfield. The newspaper article was found in the Jacob Edwards Library, Southbridge, Massachusetts.
